Redington Women’s Sonic-Pro Waders
Retail Price: $349.95
“Offering technical features that all anglers desire but designed FOR WOMEN. The women’s Sonic-Pro zip front wader makes getting in and out a breeze and the added stretch material make spending a day in your fishing waders more comfortable than traditional chest waders. With Redington’s premier Sonic-Pro technology, this is the most technical women’s specific wader on the market.”
I love and I hate these things — that’s my honest opinion.
First of all, Redington was kind enough to send me these to review months ago, and I’ve had these babies for most of the season now. I like to beat the shiz outta the gear before I jump on here and give you all the low-down, so sorry for the delay.
I ‘grade’ gear on 3 F’s ~

Function: These babies function exactly the way they are designed. Sonic sound seam welded technology you say? Yeah, that means the seams are flatter and more comfortable than sewn seams. A heavy-duty water-proof zipper down the front provides easy in and out access. There are 4 zippered pockets in the front, and I absolutely adore the ‘ergonomic zippered hand warmer pockets’. They are breathable, durable — can I say durable again — I’m not too light on my stuff and I’ve had no breaks, rips, tears, leaks or anything of the sort. They keep me dry and they feel good — as long as I remember not to wear jeans underneath and I wear my SmartWool socks!

Fashion: Hands down, the best looking women’s waders available on the market today. They actually have some ‘design’ to them and aren’t just a shaved-down brown bag. The feature I like most in this regard is the special black stretchy fabric that runs along the top edge of the waders. It’s a very nice touch. When I bend over and move around I feel like the waders move with me and they don’t cut into me. They have also added their logo in a teal blue on the women’s style, which happens to be one of my favorite colors. I appreciate that Redington didn’t settle with pink ‘just because’ it’s for ladies. THANK YOU.

Fit: Here’s where the problem lies. Fit. I like things to fit. I’m big on fit….and these don’t fit me right. I’m 120lbs and 5’8″ but I happen to have a long inseam, so I needed to order ‘longs’. Well, if you notice on the size chart I’ve provided for you below…the LONG fit doesn’t start until size Medium…which is already at least 2 sizes too big for me. THEN you add in the fact that the booties on these suckers are for a foot size of 9-10, and I’m a 7.5-8 shoe size at best. So while the length is just perfect for me, the waders are baggy and the footies are BIG – so big they are a pain to stuff into my boots.
If they were to make the perfect size for me it would be a Small-Long with a 7-8 shoe size. Hint. Hint.
So now that I’ve gotten all that off my chest. I’m personally rating these a 3.5/5 – all in all, if you can find a fit that’s perfect for you – they would be a 5/5 – which is entirely possible!
On another good note – my husband owns the men’s style – and they TOTALLY keep his farts isolated. Until he takes them off, during which time I make sure I’m not around.

I’ve thought of ordering these for my wife. She is nearly the exact size you are, beside she wears a 9 shoe. She has tried out the simms ladies but she didn’t like the fit. I do have one question though, how is it with layering? She gets cold easily, even with the “high tech” cold weather gear. Thanks for your honesty in your reviews!
Blake,
I am almost always COLD, I layer a lot and I’ve found these waders to be quite warm. The hand warmer pockets are one of my favorite features! Sounds like the M-Longs might fit her perfectly with the size 9 shoe and still leave enough room for layering as well. Hope that helps!

We are in the same boat, Jen. I ordered the medium/long to get the inseam but that leaves them large in the foot and chest. I’ll put it this way, they fit perfect at nine months pregnant.
Steph,
Well, if I ever have any more babies then I will be prepared. Props to you for getting out on the water at 9mos preggo – BTW, little Drake is adorable. Congrats!
Jen
Good review….thanks I’ll keep these in mind for my wife.
Great review! I might look into getting a men’s pair.
Thanks for the heads up as I am looking into getting a pair of waders!
Seems odd that these are priced higher than Orvis’ waders. Also good to know about their fit. My wife has unbreathable waders and if I get her a new pair I think she’d have similar issues, with her height being 4’10″. I sometimes think about getting kids waders for her!

Good Review, wished my wife like to fly fish!
Thanks for the review Jen! I actually am looking into reviewing them for myself!
I wouldn’t trade my sonic pros for anything, absolutely love them !
I have woman’s redington waders from backcountry.com, not sure if it’s the same style and I really love them! Love your blog too!

This is serious stuff!

Something you don’t think about.. but good to know!
I think booties, in general, are a tough spot for a lot of waders. The only nice thing about big boots is you can double up on wool socks if you are doing winter fishing. Otherwise, you don’t want any wrinkles that might cause blisters after a long day on the feet. Great write up. Very cool. …. yay swag
I’m in the same boat with with bootie and Wader size. Have to get an XL to fit my feet when a medium would fit my body.
I have same issue w/ men’s. Always have. I cinch them up as high as comfortable. I think they make them so no one with longer inseams than normal can also use them: better to be to long than too short and can’t fit everyone perfectly.
Couple thoughts: Try short/smaller shoe in men’s size? You can try to double over the legs by a few inches and tape down.
PS my bro used to be at a well known major wader mfgr in fishing dept. They got the most wader returns for one reason: the waders stunk to high heaven after a season’s use! They figured out why quickly. Fisherpeople never wanted to give up runs they waited days to stake out in prime steelhead and salmon holds in order to relieve themselves, and simply peed in their waders. True story.
Thanks for this review. I’m not much on chest waders myself – or waders in general (I wet wade even when the water is 40 degrees) but have been considering a new pair.
Note: I didn’t point out that I’m not in the market for a pair of women’s waders…but the overall picture of Redington’s new waders provides me some insight.
I ordered a pair of these this week. I hope that these are much better than the potato sack waders I have been wearing the past two years.
Yeah my waders have huge foodies and at times they kill my little toes. I am 5’8″ and wear a 7.5 to 8
