For sale online HERE @ Blue River Fly Company The fine folks at Umpqua sent me a nice package the other day that contained this nice little line up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My favorite so far is the Midge ~ slim, magnetic compartments, light weight, see through and lots of room for those tiny ‘ Fishilicious Hoochie Mamma’s’ I’ve been tying up recently. Change the weather, time of year and/or my location and my favorite box could change in an instant. These boxes are top of the line – well crafted, solid and absolutely beautiful. I love design, especially a unique design, and Umpqua did these right! I’m giving these a solid 5 out of 5 stars because out of all the flyboxes I’ve tried to date – these have been the absolute best yet. I’m not going anywhere without my UPG boxes. By far one of my favorite, must-have gear items! Look how puurdy these are
Update:After a few questions from readers and an email to Umpqua, I found out they have a few NEW boxes in the works. Their site should be updated this week – but here is a sneak preview of their new boxes on steroids - and YES, they gave me some to give away!!
** Giveaway: Yes, you KNOW I love giving stuff away! Now tell me – if you could choose any ONE of the UPG boxes to add to your collection (check their site out), which ONE would it be? Leave a comment below and maybe the fly box fairy will grant

Need a home for my ever-expanding meat. I said it and I’ll say this: my meat needs the LARGE box. Step on up! (#1)
I need a midge box! they always fall out!!
(#2)
I like these boxes! The thing i like best is that I can open them with one hand in a boat or on the river. (#3)
Matt W. – Which one would you like to add to your collection next?
the Large fly box or the med fly box for hoppers and streamers.
Matt – you’ve got to pick ONE!
The large fly box —- Thank you!!!
I just started tying flies, and suddenly find myself with no more room! The medium box would be perfect. Please..Thanks! (#4)
Ooo Ooo Ooo pick me!!! Those are b-e-a-utiful!! (#5)
Amanda – you have to tell me which ONE!
Well I just am getting into fly fishing and I would have to say that the Day Tripper would probably fit my needs. Great review by the way and love the blog! (#6)
I’d choose the midge one too.. I have a box for my midges, but it doesn’t work all that well. They are just too small for the box! (#7)
Hi Jen.
A box for the daytrip’s would be nice.
(#8)
Need a new fly box. i have 1/2 of an open row left haha. (#9)
Andrew – You’ve got to tell me which ONE you’d choose!
I have been wanting a medium one BAD! I have been playing with them in the fly shop just haven’t pulled the trigger. (#10)
“Daytripper, one way ticket – yeah!”
*sorry just channelled the Beatles for a minute there…
If I have to stop at one the Daytripper – being a fly and box addict the Midge appeals too, then again I’m sure I could fill another Large box with all I have kicking round on the bench atm…
Decisions, decisions, decisions…
Tweeted, Facebooked and +1′d to Google for Ms Flyfishilicous (or maybe that should be lucious…)
(#11)
hot boxin’ with the Day Tripper (#12)
I could really use the large 732 flybox, mine is not big enough for the 3 piece chicken dinners we throw at the trout up here, thanks. (#13)
I’m a jack of all trades guy, and usually need on box for every situation. But I don’t mind trading flies in and out. Gotta go with the medium 408. I’m bound and determined to win one of these giveaways!!!!! (#14)
THE BIG ONE! I just moved and will be fishing more streamers than normal….just sayin hehe (#15)
I’d say the midge box, I usually spend all summer fishing size 22-24 flies. Rather them not fall out when I drop the box! (#16)
Medium boxes are the best! (#17)
Jen, how about the 508, one number off the area code on my home river – and if you love these boxes as much as I do the 509, then +1 me! (#18)
I love these boxes. I bought one a month or so ago after my tying binge. Now I need one for my lovely wife…the Day Tripper would be nice. (#19)
The Large 732. I need a new meat locker! For the tandems waiting for some big brown love! (#20)
I absolutely love these boxes – I have a huge variety of flies and need housing for them. I have several of the boxes, and don’t have one of the Day Tripper ones, so this would be my choice. Since Umpqua came out with these boxes, they are the only ones that I purchase. The Midge Box is a real favorite as well.
If you have not tried their Boat Boxes, get some – they hold large flies very well and a have an external drying patch – great for drift boats and available in 3 sizes. (#21)
I would have to agree with you about the midge box. Definitely a must have for those little suckers! (#22)
Midge box Please!!!!! (#23)
Good things come in small packages. I like the small one. (#24)
i do like the look of these,id prefer a medium sized box to use for sea bass flies.
(#25)
not sure if these are in use in the uk but i can help promote them if i have one
no fly fshops in My country – and this boxes look perfect. I have only a couple that my firends presented to me. like that one with foam hoppers in it : )) : (( (#26)
The day tripper would work great for me. I have some rinky dink one my husband passed to me when he got a new one. :/ (#27)
The Midge Box really interests me. I have some of the larger boxes from a “competitor” and can say I havent been that impressed. I have 2 broken plastic clips that hold both sides together. I have never tried the magnetic seal boxes….maybe this will be my time to shine
(#28)
I need a box to contain the smidges of midges I tie every year! My streamer makes me a screamer when it gets away from me. Come on Jen, anyone brave enough to post something this sad on here deserves a box… (#29)
That Day Tripper box looks like it could be suited for holding some of the mystical wonders that come out from my vice…It also looks like something I might need very soon due to my excessive tying habits… (#30)
i’ve been eyeballin the Large for some time… don’t know why i have such a problem buying fly boxes (#31)
I love the look of the medium fly box. I am like many of the others were I have a compulsory buying problem. Every time I see a new fly box it’s like a tractor beam. Must be something about filling up an empty one. Thanks for sharing.
Ben
(#32)
the midge. i have 100′s of midges (#9)
I would love a DayTripper- never used a magnetic compartment before, but since I’m so messy with my flies IT WOULD BE PERFECT!! However, I’m not a choosy beggar, so I’d be happy with whatever I could get.
(#33)
The Midge. Someone stole my rubbermaid container full of fly fishing gear (including all of my fly boxes and hundreds of flies) two weeks ago, so I am getting ready to start tying a bunch more. (#34)
The Midge is the perfect companion for my growing nymph box. Please o’ please Lady of the Fishes, pick me. Pick me! (#35)
I would choose the large fly box. (#36)
Ooooh! I like the small. Size doesn’t matter, right? Right?
Thanks, FlyFishilicious and Umpqua!
(#37)
I really like the small one. It would fit very nicely in my quick-go bag.
(#38)
I would go with Medium…Middle of the road is always a safe path (boring, but safe!)
(#39)
The Large!
(#40)
Absolutely gotta have the large! (#41)
“If you’re loading up for a do-all fly box to handle the long weekend road trip, this is it. The UPG Weekender from Umpqua can be configured to store big foam bugs, or sort and display tiny midges, by using foam, micro-slit foam, and/or magnetic compartments.” This sounds like the box for me! (#42)
Let’s see if you’ve got Mad Santa Skillz…
I want the UPG Flats box!
(#43)
Ohhhh.. I have 150 flies with no home! (#44)
These boxes are the shizzle. I have a couple, but could always use another Day Tripper. The summer is coming, and I’ll be trippin! (#45)
I could use a large meat box!! These things are sweeeeeet (#46)
I would love the midge box. I have fondled it and lust for it. (#47)
I’d take the medium for the Classic Winged Wet flies i’ve been tying of late! (#48)
If I had to choose one. I would have to choose the Midge. (#49)
I just had the pleasure of seeing these a few weeks back at a local fly show and would love to get my hands on the day tripper or the midge. From what little time I spent with them I agree, 5 out of 5 for sure. (#50)
The large flybox would work well to hold all the large articulated flies I’ve been tying lately. Would make a very nice meat locker! (#51)
The midge flybox is where it’s at– I’ve been eyeballin’ it ever since it showed up in the fly shop here… (#52)
The daytripper would be the way to go! (Gotta love giveaways!) (#53)
Jen,
The midge is my kinda box! Small, and fast to deploy for the quick run to the river.
I hope I get one!
(#54)
I have a midge and a small… These are great boxes and I absolutely love them myself… Looking to add a Daytripper to my collection
(#55)
All day long I’ve been daydreaming about a day on the water……the DayTripper would be perfect! (#56)
Large. Everything’s bigger in Alaska, including my fly. Okay, flies. (#57)
The day tripper looks perfect for a little bit of everything. (#58)
I just noticed something… Is the Weekender new? I do not see that one in the UPG website. Maybe the original name of the Daytripper??? (#55)
Scott – You’ve spotted that one right. The Weekender is not quite available yet. I have the DayTripper. AS far as I can tell they are very similar – I’m going to email and ask the guys over at Umpqua for some clarification.
Sweet! Keep us posted!
Scott – take a look at the updated post about the boxes!!
Thanks for getting us the inside scoop Jen!!!
I need the BIG one!!! The bad mammajamma for some big mammajammin flies! (#59)
Now maybe folks can keep their flies off of their sunvisors. (#60)
The Midge is a solid box. I’ve been wanting one for a while, but haven’t freed up the funds to get one. (#61)
That large would be perfect for some crab
Patterns for redfish here in the south!!
Sick boxes, nicely done!!!!
(#62)
I like the medium and large boxes. (#63)
I need a day tripper for my lip rippers. (#64)
Looks like a great box for the weekend water! (#65)
Ah the midge for sure (#66)
see through, colored and floating..good stuff. I have a few of the “smalls” which are good for minimalist trout days …I’d prefer a large for my minimalist Steelhead days! (#67)
Still needing that medium box in a bad way!!!!!! (#10)
Ahh…go ‘share’ the post on Facebook for another entry to win one Dustin! http://www.facebook.com/FlyFishilicious
Jen, the Weekender would be great. Please enter me in to the drawing. (#68)
I’m going to be lucky tonight! Not once but twice!!!! (#69)
PS I made it! Not too late for the party I hope
Big one
I think i like the weekender the best ..because of the variety of flys and streamers that you could carry at one time without having to fumble through several boxes..:) (#70)
Dear Jen,
The Weekender looks like it would fit the bill. Please enter me into your drawring 1 MILLION times! Muah-hah-hah!
How about twice; for this comment and for sharing your post?
You rock!
-Jenkins
(#71)
I could take a weekender….if you have the magic pick me! (#72)
A Magnum Dry would be an awesome box for the Skagit River in BC. I need a better box for all the drys I tie up. (#73)
Jen, I don’t know how to outdo all these other folks other than to say that once I’m done reviewing the box it will be given to a very nice young lady friend of mine that has just recently purchased her first rod and is just getting equipped. She needs it, not me. So, after I’ve reviewed it, I’m gonna give it away!!!! (#74)
F…L…A…T…S B…O…X, please. Let’s see what kind of juice you’ve got with the good folks at Umpqua, Jen. Anybody can get TROUT boxes. It takes a real promoter to get saltwater gear!
(#75)
They are great boxes. A Magnum Dry would be a nice addition. (#76)
The Midge
(#77)
It would be perfect for my little tiny flies
i think the magnum dry would work out just fine. thanks for the opportunity. (#78)
OK COMMENTS ARE CLOSED FOR ENTRIES NOW. You can still comment on how much you love the boxes though.
Thanks Jen and Umpqua, the new box will be full soon after I receive it and I will post a picture.
Could use this for Flies for Charity . It would be a great addition to the gear we have collected for the diabled community ..
Mine just arrived! Beastly box for sure. Cannot wait to fill it up over some beers and Pandora. Gonna take a while. I’ll be posting a review soon.
My Magnum Dry arrived today, Canada customs holds things up, or maybe it was Canada Post, either way I was thrilled to see it today after work. It is the best looking box I have seen, looking forward to filling it. Thanks Jen
