Higa’s SOS was created by Spencer Higa – he’s also the fantastic lead guide at Falcon’s Ledge in Utah.
Spencer gave me a little insider info about creating this fly ~
“The SOS was created to imitate a couple of different bugs. I spend a lot of my time fishing tailwaters so I combined two of my favorite patterns the pheasant tail and zebra midge. It has all the characteristics of a baetis with a thin segmented body, which also looks like a midge. I’ve also added a red wingcase which acts as an attracter. I originally fished this fly mainly on tailwaters but soon discovered that it works pretty much everywhere. Fish it before, during and after a BWO hatch or just use it to search when there’s nothing hatching.”
REVIEWS:
-
The guys over at FlyFishingFrenzy are always raving about this fly and the success they’ve consistently had with it. See HERE.
-

btw, it was before i knew there was a contest
You’re awesome!
I tie and fish the PT in many different styles and on most trips and agree that it is a good fly for many curcumistances/ I don’t fish midges much at all, but this fly has me curious and I might just have to tie up a few and give them a try. Thanks for sharing.
I also shared this on twitter and my Facebook and liked Falcon’s Lddge FB page.
Passinthru – It wouldn’t hurt to give it a try for sure! Thank you for sharing! 5 entries – #67, #68, #69, #70, #71

Brad – You’ll have to let us know how it works out! #72

Brad – I did get your order – and I’ll get that out shortly. Thank you! #88, #89, #90
I really like this pattern! Might have to order this kit, never used the fly before, but it looks really great! Is the kit only in size 16? some smaller ones would be nice like some 18-22′s..I need to trick some smart trout in a few of the eastern tailwaters
Nice website too!!
Jon – The kit comes with size 16 hooks – but you can always use the materials to tie the pattern on any similar smaller hooks you have available. I think they’d work well for you
#91
I forgot to mention that I liked this on facebook, shared it to my wall, tweeted about it and liked Falcons Ledge too
