Yesterday I was enjoying a cup of hot chocolate with a friend when he mentioned something about the
I had no idea what he was talking about
and he was surprised I hadn’t caught mention of it before.
He gave me a quick run-down
and that was that.
TODAY I went to the Denver Art Museum
&
low and behold
what did I run into?
Basically
Christo and Jeanne-Claude came up with this idea
to suspend 5.9 miles of ‘silvery, luminous fabric panels’ in 8 sections
over a 42 mile stretch over the Arkansas River
for a 2 week ‘exhibition’
that will take nearly a total of 3 years to install and then dismantle.
What’s the main concern?
The disruption & impact on the wildlife & environment.
If you haven’t heard about it
or would like some more information
Here are some good links:
~Colorado Trout Unlimited’s Comments on OTR
~and as with any debate – here are a list of supporters of the project.
I’d love to hear your thoughts.
What do you think about this?
Where does it sit with you?

Despicable that Colorado or the BLM would entertain this travesty. Both Colorado Senators and numerous representatives support this idiot in the name of money. The whoring out of public land continues. The Governors commission on wildlife opposes it, every fly fisher I know opposes it yet it continues.
I heard about this issue and dont like the project idea. I hope the powers to be say no to this artist. We have enough issues with the environment and dont need to add to it.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. There, my rant is done.
I like art, but sometimes it makes no sense, is wasteful, and is generally, as T! said, stupid.
Looks like they got their leases for the project…http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44825034/ns/us_news-environment/t/us-state-approves-leases-christo-project/#.TrW4aHGZNAg
The Ark is a beautiful river, and while something like this might bring in additional tourism dollars, it comes with a lot of the potentially negative impacts to both the environmental and economical landscapes of the river valley. Let Sec. Ken Salazar (U.S. Department of the Interior), Mike King (Executive Director
Colorado Department of Natural Resources), & Gov. John Hickenlooper know what you think about this abomination by going to Keep America Fishing
and use the online form to send your thoughts about this to your representatives.
I'm still shocked at how low public awareness is on this one and by the time the work get out it might be too late.
Thanks T!, couldn't have said it any better…
Don't even get me started. I'm hoping the redneck contingent takes care of this project at completion. Fabric burns you know.
A bunch of art loving gawkers driving, standing, gawking along a narrow, twisty, dangerous stretch of highway…. that makes a lot of sense!
Burn Baby, Burn!
The Ark is my favorite river in Colorado. I'm upset, disappointed and very disillusioned that the state is going to allow this. It's going to be a long time before the Arkansas Valley is back to it's beautiful, normal self…I hope.
Rags Over the Arkansas River (ROAR / roarcolorado.org) is doing a great job challenging Christo’s project in the courts. Based on recent legal challenges Christo has said it would be impossible to launch the project by August 2015 and that it is indefinitely delayed.

This is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen.
